Big Warmaster Game
Or rather game of Warmaster with big figures.
The figures from way back when I actually played Warmaster Fantasy. I had just enough figures left in dusty boxes to create a Bretonnian and a Vampire Counts army. Only a few pieces needed to be printed and painted (Pegasus Knights are 10mm figures scaled up, came out OK). I based one cavalry figure and two infantry to a base to make reasonable looking units.
So, 2000 point armes ready, table prepared with suitable terrain, armies deployed lazy wargamer style on the table side closest to the players.
Vampire in the black coach traitorously stayed in his coffin for the whole game rarely venturing out to issue the odd order. The rest of the army advanced cautiously.
Conversely the Bretonnians went for the ‘Alpha Strike’ approach and thundered their knights across the table and SMACK they crashed into the skeletons and Grave Guard. Bits of skeleton were scattered to the four winds as they were cut down.
The black knights tried to counter this and charged in, the Dire wolves moved to attack the flank of the Bretonnians but hesitated and failed to charge home. On the other flank the Ethereal hosts led a counterattack engaging the knights and taking the high ground. The vampire in the Black coach did nothing. The necromancers also fluffed their lines and no spells were successful.
The second line of Knights charged home to beat back the Ethereal hosts. The Pegasus knights and the Grail knight stomped all over the Dire Wolves and then advanced into the remaining undead infantry.
To get back on the front foot the Vampire Count called upon his vampire in the black coach to lead the rest of the Black Knights to victory. The vampire stirred in his coffin and rolled a nine. Leading what troops he could muster the Vampire Count went back into the fray, but it was too late, even the Bretonnian infantry were winning.
The count’s struggles were in vain as more and more units fell beneath the hooves of the Bretonnians. So, he accepted the inevitable and called it a day before slinking off in defeat, determine to have a serious word with one of his Vampires
Overall, a good game despite the poor performance by the vampires, I mean how hard is it to cast a spell, you had one job to do!
So the figures go will go back into storage until the next time, perhaps another decade or so.
